I was recently asked to develop a website Brownfilms or Emmy nominated sound cameraman David Brown. David has worked for many years with broadcasters including BBC and Discovery Channel and last year filmed a documentary featuring Mike Tyson.
David wanted a website that was exceptionally simple and provided me with his designs. After building his site in Django I needed to choose a streaming provider in order to deliver his 2 minute film previews quickly to visitors.
Initially I went with BitsOnTheRun, primarily due to a lack of encoding tools that I had available at the time, however after concerns about the cost of BitsOnTheRun going forward I decided to give Amazon CloudFront a try.
CloudFront, which is part of the AWS package of services offered by Amazon was very simple to setup and after re-encoding the videos as MP4 files and uploading to an Amazon S3 account I have been exceptionally pleased with the cost and speed of delivery that has been possible.
